What is Abdominoplasty ?

Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss.

Abdominal stretching is a 3-stage operation. First, the fat tissues in the anterior and lateral parts of the abdomen are removed by liposuction method to obtain a thin appearance in both abdomen and waist. Secondly, subcutaneous tissue is removed from the sagging abdomen with dense fissures that remain under the navel. The abdominal skin is tightened and the navel is sutured to its new location. Thirdly, the deformed muscles in the anterior abdominal wall are brought closer to each other and the abdomen is leveled.

It is recommended that the patient should not smoke for at least 2 hours in the preoperative period. Abdominal stretching is performed under general anesthesia. It takes about 2-3 hours according to the procedures to be performed together. The patient does not have significant pain after surgery. In the early period, the patient is can walk. For bleeding control, the patient is followed up in the hospital for two days. After discharge, the patient is asked to use a special corset for 4-6 weeks. The patient should not lift heavy loads for 8 weeks. With proper planning, 4-6 body thinning can be achieved after abdominal stretching.
